Working overseas: Changing lives - take your skills further

The RCN, in collaboration with the Royal College of Midwives, Voluntary Service Overseas and Médicins Sans Frontières are holding their annual event on Friday 10 September 2010.

Venue:  Royal College of Nursing, 20 Cavendish Square, London W1G ORN.

This collaborative event aims to provide a platform for all stakeholders, planners, providers and users of health care to debate and discuss global trends on provision of health care.  It is designed to give registered practitioners an opportunity to explore the options around gaining experience of health care provisions in developing countries.

Call for abstracts on nurses driving access, quality and health

The RCN's alliance, the International Council of Nurses, has issued a call for abstracts or posters for their conference on how nurses provide quality care; improve people's access to health services; or contribute towards advancing nursing knowledge and practice.  The conference takes place on 2 to 8 May 2011 in Malta and its' theme is nurses driving access, quality and health; abstract or poster submissions must address one of ten sub-themes identified by ICN, showing how it links to the main theme.  The ten sub-themes are:

  • the nursing workforce and workplace
  • pandemics/disasters
  • ethics/human rights
  • clinical care, patient safety and quality
  • nursing education and the learning environment
  • care systems and access
  • technology, innovations and informatics
  • leadership - management
  • regulation and legislation
  • history.

Abstracts must not exceed 2,500 characters (about 250 words), the author must be a member of a nursing association who is itself a member of ICN (as is the RCN) and the deadline to submit an abstract or poster is midnight (GMT) 15 September 2010.  More information including guidelines is available on the ICSN website: www.icn2011.ch.
