Guidance on NHS patients who wish to pay for additional private care

On 4 November 2008, the Department of Health published draft guidance on how to proceed in situations where NHS patients wished to buy additional secondary care services that the NHS did not fund.

The Professor Richards review report published earlier in 2008 showed that there was confusion about the rules in this area. The draft Department of Health guidance was produced to provide clarity for NHS patients who receive private care. The attached document outlines the RCN comments on the draft guidance.
