The NHS Constitution brought together in one place what the NHS does, what it stands for and the commitments it should live up to. It describes and renews our commitment to the values and enduring principles of the NHS.
It is also a living document that needs to reflect what matters and is relevant to the needs of patients, the public and staff in the 21st century.

Published date: 10 July 2009The NHS Constitution has applied to the NHS and health services in England since its launch in January 2009. The Health Bill seeks to provide a legal basis for the NHS Constitution and is currently being debated in Parliament. This consultation seeks views on three questions from the State of Readiness Group in the context of the current legal duty being debated in Parliament- the duty to have regard to the Constitution.
