Social care reforms
The RCN has long called for urgent reform of the social care system, in light of the system's chronic underfunding, complexity and confusing processes which impede the delivery of integrated health and social care. The RCN welcomed the Government's draft Care and Support Bill, which seeks to improve areas such as prevention, information and understanding about the system, but the RCN remains cautious about its implementation as much depends on adequate resourcing of the system. The Government’s plans for funding reform – the £75,000 care cost cap – have yet to be written into the draft Bill.
The draft Care and Support Bill also includes legislation for the creation of Health Education England.
