Clinical commissioning groups
There are currently over 200 clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) nationally going through the authorisation process. There will be four "waves" of authorisation, which are well underway.
CCGs will become statutory independent bodies on 1 April 2013. CCGs will be listed under Annex A of the 'Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions Handbook' as an NHS employer, and will be an employer under the NHS pension scheme.
CCGs are very variable in their stage of development and engagement with the RCN. Some have been very progressive in their appointments of executive nurses to the board and working with the RCN and other key stakeholders.

- The NHS Commissioning Board website has many resources about CCGs. The resources cover the authorisation and development process, including a useful resource which has details of the authorised CCGs.
