Mark is the lead for the RCN’s work on involving and engaging with patients and patients groups on health and social care policy. He also works on issues relating to patient experience, including patient choice and quality.

Prior to joining the RCN, Mark Platt covered policy, research and public affairs roles for the patient organisation, National Voices, and its predecessor, the Long-term Conditions Alliance (LTCA). In that capacity he was a member of the European Patients Forum policy group, and a member of the board of NHS National Centre for Involvement.

Mark has also worked for the CBI and the Federation of Small Businesses, holding a number of senior policy roles covering government, regulatory and EU affairs, and served for three years as one of the three employers’ representatives on the UK's Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC).

Before moving into policy development, Mark also had a career in sexual health promotion and HIV prevention, and worked for the first pan-London free condom distribution scheme, ‘Rubberstuffers’, as well as for Camden NHS.
