Will Hutton is a political economist, academic, and journalist. He is Chair of the Big Innovation Centre, which helps organisations put their innovation principles into practice, and Principal of Hertford College Oxford. He was formerly editor of The Observer.
Ahead of the launch of his new book ‘Saving Britain’, Will will talk about the current economic and political outlook for the UK, what effect that might have on the NHS, and the dangers of underfunding the Health Service.
Christie Watson spent twenty years working as a nurse, including at Great Ormond Street, Guy’s and St Thomas’s and St Mary’s hospitals. Her first novel, Tiny Sunbirds Far Away, won the Costa First Novel Award in 2011 and her second novel, Where Women Are Kings, was published to widespread critical acclaim.
Her latest book The Language of Kindness is a non-fiction account of her experiences as a nurse which throws open the doors of the hospital – its wards, store cupboards and staff rooms.
Janet assumed the post of Chief Executive and General Secretary in August 2015. Janet has been on the RCN Executive team since 2005 as the strategic lead for nursing and services to members.
Janet started her nursing career in Manchester, and gained experience in acute, mental health and community settings. She later moved into director of nursing roles, where she obtained extensive experience in leading and developing the nursing profession. She also pioneered good partnership working with other health care organisations, as well as social services, the police, the fire service and the wider community.
