Confirmed keynote speaker:

Professor Dame Jill MacLeod ClarkRecalibrating Nurse Education Standards Professor Dame Jill Macleod Clark, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the University of Southampton, is leading on the NMC’s work to develop new standards of proficiency for the future graduate registered nurse. These are standards that must be met by all nursing students on NMC approved programmes prior to entry to the register. It is essential that these new standards are accessible, outcome focused and fit for the future, embracing the values set out in the Code. During this keynote Jill will update delegates on the project, share the journey to date and the vision for the future of undergraduate nursing.

Recalibrating Nurse Education Standards workshops

These workshops which will take place on day 1 and day 2 of the conference and will be hosted by Pauline Walsh, Chair of the RCN Education Forum, will provide you with the unique opportunity to have your say and influence the future of undergraduate nursing education in the UK. How should we be developing world class nursing staff that will support better outcomes for patients and be the future clinical leaders? Join us at this workshop to explore what the future framework of nursing education should look like and discuss the NMC's proposals: the recommendations and feedback from these workshops will be passed to the NMC to assist with future development.

Setting the scene to the workshops

Developing nursing standards that are fit for the future
The current pre-registration standards for nursing were published in 2010 and since then we have seen unprecedented change in healthcare. Work has begun on developing new standards that are outcome focused and fit for the future, embracing the values set out in the Code.

This work is being led by Professor Dame Jill Macleod Clark, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the University of Southampton. She is working closely with a group of thought leaders, representing nurses from across the four fields of practice and the four countries.

The new standards will apply across all current fields of practice and all healthcare settings, from acute to community. They will give all nurses, regardless of field, an understanding of mental health care and physical care. They will also reflect the growing focus on public health and health education.

New for 2017:

  • Panel discussions: your opportunity to ask the experts questions you want answers to.
  • Updates on the work of the RCN and how to get involved.
  • The 4 country perspective: understand what’s happening across the sector
  • The global and 4 country perspective
