Clinical Leadership Programme

Exemplary leadership in health and social care

The Clinical Leadership Programme has been developed specifically for future clinical leaders. Suited to both NHS and independent health and social care organisations, the programme is designed for clinicians who are currently working in bands 6 and 7 or equivalent. The RCN’s wealth of knowledge will develop your clinical leadership skills through a programme of coaching based on our bespoke leadership framework.

By taking part in this programme you will:

  • Develop your clinical leadership skills by leading a service improvement project in your workplace.
  • Learn the most effective ways to manage a process of change in the clinical environment.
  • Experience coaching as a supportive development tool and understand how to use coaching skills in practice.

Programme content

The core modules are delivered through as series of one-day facilitated coaching sessions. Specific modules include:

  • Preparation day
  • Model the way
  • Inspire a shared vision
  • Challenge the process
  • Enable others to act
  • Encourage the heart

Models for delivery

Clinical Leadership Programme for healthcare organisations (model 1)

Similar to train the trainer, an organisation can send one or more training representatives to an RCN residential.  Upon completion of the residential training the representative(s) will become approved facilitators, enabling them to train others using the RCN’s Clinical Leadership Programme content.

Each representative will gain a license to deliver the programme to up to 20 individuals per year (recommended delivery time is 10 months). An RCN Associate Consultant will support the representative throughout the delivery.

Cost: £9,600 + VAT – this includes the residential course, the license to deliver, support from an RCN Associate Consultant and all programme materials. This cost breaks down to £480 per participant if the full license is utilised.

Facilitator places are limited to maximise each individual’s learning experience. The next course dates are:

Clinical Leadership Programme for individuals (model 2)

Individuals can attend the Clinical Leadership Programme which is delivered by an accredited RCN trainer at an RCN site.

Cost: £2000 + VAT (member discount available)
