Great ideas developed with RCN support and funding
The aim of the Celebrating Nursing Practice project is to produce a library of good practice. This will be in the form of a publication of examples of innovative best practice from a variety of settings all around the UK. A small number of these examples will then receive investment in order to develop them further for evaluation purposes.
For example, the RCN could campaign for your clinical innovation to be introduced as standard practice across the country, creating a real legacy.
The Celebrating Nursing Practice project is part of the RCN centenary programme, and is funded by the RCN Foundation.
Phase 1 – Now until January 2018
During this phase the examples of best practice will be worked up into publishable form. RCN has provided the project participants with mentors to facilitate this. Each group will submit a final piece, outlining the gap being addressed, the outcomes and linking it explicitly to the local, regional, and/or national nursing/patient care context. These will be collated and published by RCN.
Phase 2 – January 2018 to January 2019
During this phase, 2 or 3 projects will receive funding for further development and evaluation. During the year, this funding should be used to implement the good practice more widely and record the impact. Those interested in this phase will be invited to submit a bid for the extra funding in January 2018.

I have the privilege to mentor, through the CNP project, two of the most inspiring nurses I have ever met. Bev Jones and Siobhan Andrewartha are working on a project which is innovative, unique and represents true meaning of inclusive nursing leadership.
Bev and Siobhan ran a 38 week pilot in which they offered a safe space for asylum seeking and refugee women to discuss their personal health issues with experienced nurses. On occasion this could be the women's first contract ever with any form of health care. This space has evolved into so much more as the women find, perhaps for the first time in their lives, the opportunity to have tome for themselves, time to speak in confidence, time to enjoy the company and friendship of others.
Bev and Siobhan have great plans to develop this pilot into a permanent and sustainable programme and it will be my privilege to continue to support them as far as I can.
