Townswomen's Guild banner

Townswomen's Guild

We have received a traditional marching banner.

We were honoured to receive a traditional marching banner from the Townswomen's Guild, to celebrate our 100th anniversary.

Hand sewn by talented members of the Guild, the banner will be on display at selected RCN events, including at Congress in June. Members joining us in Glasgow will see, at close hand, the intricate needlework performed by the Guild.

The Guild has roots in the women's suffrage movement, and actively campaigns on a range of issues, many of which are also of interest to the College. Consequently, the RCN's Chief Executive & General Secretary Janet Davies is an Honorary Associate of the organisation and it was through her relationship with the Guild that the idea for a banner began.

Watch how the banner was made

“It means a great deal that the Townswomen’s Guild has joined our centenary celebrations. The banner is not just a beautiful object for us to have, it is also a symbol of the relationship we have enjoyed with the Guild, campaigning on issues that are important to us both.”
