We carry the torch

RCN staff, members and their families and friends embarked on an epic journey in 2016 to celebrate our centenary and raise money for the RCN Foundation.

Between April and September 2016 more than 400 participants covered 1,500 miles as they travelled on foot between all the RCN office buildings. Starting in Exeter and ending in Belfast the relay teams carried replicas of Florence Nightingale’s lamp and were easy to spot in their bright orange T-shirts.

‘We carry the torch’ is a translation of the RCN’s motto ‘Tradimus Lampada’ – and it couldn’t have been more fitting for this test of endurance.

The Foundation is an independent charity, supporting the nursing community to improve the health and wellbeing of the public.
