International Centenary Conference

The RCN International Centenary Conference has five key themes, covering a broad scope of topics at the heart of nursing today.  You can use this page to find out more about each theme and download the conference programme to help plan your time at the event.

Social event

Join us at the Royal College of Nursing’s headquarters in Central London for an evening of celebration.

Society, communities and relationships

Hear more about a variety of abstracts discussing healthcare in the justice system, building collaborative health pathways, delivering person centered care at home and exploring the changing focus on mental health.

Technology and innovation

Discover nursing in the digital age.  Find out what role social media and health technology may play from both a patient and nursing perspective.  Look at the impact of reliance on electronic equipment in practice and hear more about what the next 100 years of nursing could look like.

Knowledge for change and improvement

This will cover a variety of prevalent issues from dementia and childhood obesity to exploring nursing training around the world.  Discover how building ethical understanding can improve patient care and what a global perspective of shared decision making in health might look like in future.

Populations, health and economic growth

Nursing is at the heart of health care nationally and globally. From Malta to Zambia, Wales to Canada and Myanmar to the USA, this area explores the nursing team worldwide.  From community care and preventative interventions through to nursing education and leadership.

Conflicts, disaster and recovery

This will feature sessions on military nursing, from the history of ambulance trains in WW1 to supporting the front line in Afghanistan.  It will explore topics from epidemic recovery, the role of the nurse in humanitarian aid and the value of the rehabilitation nurse in disaster response.
