Meet with your elected representative

RCN members across the UK are campaigning to get the fair pay they deserve

Now the pay cap has been scrapped, the governments across the UK must ensure nursing staff get the pay award they deserve.

We are encouraging members to arrange a meeting with their elected representative (Member of Parliament or Members of the Scottish Parliament) to share their stories and to ask them to support our campaign to close the gap.

In Northern Ireland, RCN pay champions have now completed a programme of engagement with MPs.

Why it's important:

We need your help to keep the political pressure on each UK government to give nursing staff an above inflation pay award that makes up for years of real-terms pay cuts. The best way to do this is through meetings with your elected representatives where you can ask them for their support.

Constituency or regional meetings are an opportunity for you to talk about the impact of poor pay on you and your place of work.

It's important to remember that the RCN is not affiliated to any political party.  We work alongside organisations and individuals from a range of backgrounds who champion our causes to achieve the best deal for nursing.

Local support

We will support you to arrange, prepare and feedback on your meeting. This support includes:

  • a sample email to send to your elected representative
  • information to help you build this relationship
