Speaking up on nursing pay
The offer of higher pay may seem attractive to nursing staff who are struggling financially. But in the long-term, a pension built up over time is likely to be worth far more than the immediate pay rise that’s on offer.
We’ve written to the Trust management stating our opposition, and to our members working in the Trust, informing them of the consequences of opting out the NHS Pension Scheme. We've also provided our network of workplace representatives with campaign materials to speak up against this offer.
The Trust has refused to withdraw the offer and we are now in dispute. Entering into dispute is not a decision we take lightly. However, this was necessary because the offer was introduced without trade union consultation.
All partnership working has ceased and we will now work with the conciliation service ACAS to find a solution.
You shouldn’t consider leaving the NHS Pension Scheme without taking independent financial advice.
If you are considering taking up this offer, or if you have already done so, and you would like guidance on how to access financial advice, please contact RCN Direct.
