Nurse Verification of Expected Death Guidance

As a result of the Survey earlier this year  ‘Survey of Acute Trusts, Community Nursing teams, Care Homes, Hospice at Home, and General Practice regarding Hospice UK (2016) Registered Nurse Verification of Expected Death Guidance and competencies. May 2018’, and in consultation with senior clinical colleagues, there are two recommendations we would now like to get feedback on from  registered nurses who have an interest in this aspect of care.

  1. To reduce the number of supervised practices required, after training, to achieve competencies to a maximum of one  supervised practice and in conjunction with the Registered Nurses assessment of their own confidence and competence
  2. Currently  we request a doctor to record in the patients notes that  an expected death can be verified by a registered nurse. This requirement  to be removed.

Please can you ask complete the Hospice UK survey by 16 November 2018: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/75HXW5R

For any additional feedback or comments please email Dawne Garrett at dawne.garrett@rcn.org.uk

Thank you very much.
