Successful candidates will attend an RCN Council meeting on 14 December 2018 with outgoing and incoming Council members.
The RCN Council member role
To find out what the role involves, please take a look at the role descriptor.
RCN Council meets for full Council meetings a minimum of five times a year. The meetings last for a full day, and two of these meetings are usually across two days. These means candidates will need to be available for approximately seven days of Council meetings.
Council members are expected to attend RCN Congress in May. As well as sitting on Council, members are ex-officio members of their RCN country or regional board. Boards meet three to five times a year. The Student and Health Practitioner Council members also have an ex-officio place on the Student and Health Practitioner Committees respectively and these meet 4 to 5 times a year.
Council members may also be asked to sit on one other governance committee (for example Audit, Finance or Remuneration) which will meet 2 to 4 times a year.
In addition to the meetings themselves, Council members need to set aside time to read papers for the meetings they will be attending and to carry out work between meetings.
There may also be occasional teleconferences and attendance at other events.
An estimate of the annual commitment is 40 days.
If once on Council members are then elected as Chair, Vice Chair or Honorary Treasurer or as Chair of another committee then there would be an additional time commitment.
The RCN calendar for 2019 meetings can be found here. Please note this calendar includes all RCN meetings and not just those which Council members would be expected to attend.
