Financial support for nursing students - tell us your views

Nursing students in Scotland are being asked to give their views on student financial support.

Student Finance Survey 2023
The results will help us influence Scottish government to improve the financial support students receive.

The survey is open to all nursing students in Scotland – not just RCN student members. Complete the survey here

The survey is open until Wednesday 15 February.

Chloe Jackson, RCN Student Committee member for Scotland, said:

“A degree in nursing involves longer terms and a variety of placements that can impact on students’ ability to self-fund their studies. Nursing students in Scotland receive a bursary in recognition of this. While this is a significant help, it hasn’t increased in line with rises in the cost of living. This will definitely be having an impact on students being able to afford to complete their studies. Nursing students need to be supported financially, academically and personally, to complete their studies.”

RCN Scotland’s other RCN Student Committee member for Scotland, Lou Hyett-Collins, added:

“If we are going to see any improvement in the current nursing workforce crisis, we can’t lose any nursing student because they can’t afford to finish their degree. The evidence from this survey will help the RCN lobby the Scottish government to adjust the package of financial support to make sure no nursing student is financially disadvantaged. It’s vital that the right support is available for those who are choose to studying nursing. I would urge as many nursing students as possible to complete our survey.”
