"It leaves me with no choice but to look at other careers"

“As a senior band 7 nurse, I'm financially worse off compared to about five years ago because of higher national insurance and pension contributions. My current 12.5% pension contribution rate compares unfavourably with the previous 9.3%. My pension increment has jumped by 3.2%, which is the highest increase amongst all the pension increments. I find this very unfair. It leaves me with no choice but to look at other careers, including in the south of Ireland. I'm aware that the RCN is working on this, but I don’t feel enough is being done to support me and I would support a ballot to strike.”

Band 7 nurse, Northern Ireland
