2019 is already looking like a busy and productive year for the RCN.
With a new President and Deputy in post as well as a new Chair and Vice-Chair of Council, we are now preparing to launch a major campaign around safe staffing legislation.
Our research and experience has told us that tighter regulations around staff:patient ratios and skill mix are vital if we are to ensure not only a safe working environment for our members but also a safe, caring and compassionate environment for patients. In planning this campaign we have been speaking to members from all sectors of healthcare and at all grades to collect information from the frontline and make sure that we get the changes that you want to see.
Brexit continues to dominate the headlines and the RCN is calling for a second referendum on the details of any deal. Last year at Congress, delegates voted for this and we are determined to carry this through.
Closer to home I recently met with Owen Williams, Chief Executive of Calderdale and Huddersfield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to discuss working together on a joint LGBT conference to take place later this year. We will add details to our website when they are confirmed, but for now it is very exciting to be working with partner organisations who are as keen as we are to promote and celebrate diversity, particularly in the current political climate.
If you are involved in any professional or work-related events and projects that you think deserve to be celebrated then don’t forget to let us know about them, you can get in touch with our regional team by emailing yorkshire.andhumberregion@rcn.org.uk.
