"The cost of living has risen but my take home pay has decreased. The 2017-2018 pay award meant that my take-home pay was £270 per month less than it had been three years previously. I have children at both school and university, so this pay reduction impacts directly on my ability to support them. I am still paying back almost £1,000 pounds in arrears. “I also work part-time, so I now pay a higher net rate of pension than that of my full-time colleagues, which is a further disadvantage. It feel very unfair that a long-overdue pay rise should actually leave me out of pocket. At a time when the recruitment and retention of staff is causing huge pressure on our system, it feels like staff are less valued than ever.”
