Christmas Message 2018

Christmas Message 2018

It won’t only be Santa working hard during the festive period as Nurses and Health Care Practitioners (HCP) will be caring for patients 24 hours a day right throughout the holiday period. They know they will face challenges with emergency admissions, acute and chronic illnesses still occurring within the population of Wales no matter what time of year. They will continue to provide care sensitively and with compassionately in hospitals, GP practices and community settings.

I know the public, our patients, will want to join me in expressing thanks to RCN members for their hard work throughout the year and during the holidays. Thankful for the time they are giving up away from their own celebrations and thankful for the care and compassion they give and show every day. I hope that those members who do work during the holidays will be able to manage some time to enjoy the festive period as well.

I would like to say a special thank you to our RCN representatives for their passion and commitment to making sure the voice of nursing has been heard throughout 2018 at local and national level, by the Welsh Government, their employers, the general public and the wider RCN membership.

The end of year is always a time for reflection and optimism, and what a year it has been for RCN Wales members. This year we have seen the successful introduction of the final duties in the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016, with the journey to get there captured in our film ‘Compassion in Care’. In addition members working in the NHS in Wales accepted a 3 year pay deal and our 7th RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards was a tremendous success.

2019, and years to come, will have challenges and opportunities for nurses and HCPs. Our role in shaping and contributing to the services of the future is immense as we look forward to working in partnership across Wales in all sectors.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Nadolig Llawen A Blwyddyn Newydd Dda.
