As we move into the final weeks of the pay consultation to find out whether you think the Government’s 3% pay award for NHS staff on Agenda for Change T&Cs is acceptable or not, I would like to thank all of you who have already voted for making your views known and for the support and encouragement given to others to make sure their voices are also heard.
To those of you who have not yet voted, time is running out - make sure you use your vote before the consultation closes at midday on Monday 13 September.
As your RCN Trade Union Committee (TUC) member for the Eastern region, I urge you to please use your vote - whether you think the award is acceptable or unacceptable, your view is important
This is because the outcome of this consultation will be used by the TUC to inform decisions about the next steps in the campaign. The bigger the turnout, the clearer and stronger the message to us. It’s really important to me to have the views of as many of you as possible so that these can be represented at TUC alongside those of our colleagues in other regions.
I am aware this is a pay award - not an offer - and employers are informing staff that the backdated pay will be received in September. But our fight for fair pay doesn’t end here. The skills of nursing staff and their critical role in patient safety are still not truly recognised through our pay.
Thank you to those of you who are not eligible to vote in this consultation, but who have nonetheless shown their support for the campaign. While the NHS is currently at the forefront in the campaign, pay in other sectors is still carefully considered by the TUC as your skills and knowledge are also vital and should be recognised and fairly rewarded. If you do change employer, please update your details so that you will be able to participate in any further activity.
