My role is to lead a UK review of the nursing cadet education resources, this includes supporting, delivering, and working collaboratively with the voluntary organisations, health care providers and networks. I will also be working closely with cadets to obtain their views on the scheme.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has created some challenges in delivering the scheme. However, with great teamwork and the creative use of Microsoft Teams, we have managed to deliver the theoretical parts of the course and maintain contact with all invested parties.
From the feedback I have already received, the Nursing Cadet Scheme is viewed in a very positive light, all the Health Boards and trusts I have spoken to are delighted to be involved and are enthusiastic about its future.
I am looking forward to meeting more stakeholders as part of this process and ensuring that the RCN Prince of Wales Nursing Cadet Scheme continues to thrive. As a nurse myself, I know how rewarding a career in healthcare can be and how vital it is to ensure that we attract more people into the profession. I feel honoured to be part of a team that is supporting young people from every culture and background, to forge their own future careers.
