Those of us who work in the delivery of health and care are aware that the only constant we are certain about is change. The College just as any other organisation, is also in a process of change. With this change comes both opportunity and challenge.
I am so proud to be in the privileged position to collectively work through this with you and your elected members.
What matters to you matters to me. My team and I are always available to speak with you at any time. Whether it is suggestions, ideas or even concerns - please do let us know. We take all issues seriously and in line with our member resolution policy.
As our statement said earlier this week, Carol Popplestone is now interim Chair of Council, stepping up from her respected position as Vice Chair. Council has also elected Geoffrey Walker OBE, Council member for the South West of England, as interim Vice Chair. Both Carol and Geoffrey bring knowledge and understanding to the role as nurses and as long-time RCN members and Stewards – active in their local branches and sitting on various RCN committees.
Change continues at pace across the four UK countries. You will be aware the Health and Care Bill was laid in Parliament on Wednesday; the review to modernise regulation continues, and matters related with EU exit to note only a few. We continue to meet, lobby and influence MPs.
We still await the recommendations from the Pay Review Body and the associated implications for our members. This remains a primary focus for us.
You may already know that Dr Denise Chaffer’s tenure as your new RCN President has commenced. Denise is very aware of the priorities that matter to you and is looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible when restrictions permit.
For those of you who are still to get some leave, I hope you enjoy a well-deserved break and come back ready to face the many opportunities and challenges we have ahead of us.
