Nursing, a career for men: myths, challenges and solutions

Our speakers will be:
- Dr Heather Whitford - Equality and Diversity Convenor and Lecturer, School of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Dundee. Heather has undertaken collaborative research, for the Scottish Collaboration for the Enhancement of Pre-registration Nursing (SCEPRN) and commissioned by NES, with colleagues from the University of West of Scotland, University of Edinburgh, University of Dundee, and Robert Gordon University, into pre-registration nursing recruitment and retention – underrepresentation of men, influences and causes.
- Dr James Taylor – Senior Lecturer, School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery, University of the West of Scotland. James is also part of the SCEPRN team involved in researching influences and causes of underrepresentation of men in pre‐ registration nursing in Scotland. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. James' clinical and research background is in mental health, psychological trauma, and prisoner health.
- Craig Davidson – Scotland representative on the RCN UK Student Committee. Craig is a student nurse at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he is School Officer for the Department of Nursing and Community Health. He is a passionate believer in student mental health support, recruiting more men into nursing, and has a keen interest in oncology and palliative care.
