Cavendish Square HERstories: A Walking Tour

22 Jun 2022 15:00 - 17:00

20 Cavendish Square, Marylebone, London, W1G ORN

A walking tour of the history of nursing and women's suffrage around the Royal College of Nursing, celebrating 100 years of the RCN Library.

In 1918, some women in the UK gained the right to vote; in 1919 nurse activists achieved their goal of state registration. Nurse activist Beatrice Kent wrote that, had nurses “been armed with that powerful weapon – the vote – they would have been victorious long ago” in getting the nursing registration act through Parliament. Join our guided tour to explore the links between nursing and suffrage activism in the streets around Cavendish Square, the place where militancy began in London.
