Are you Glove Aware? Celebrating Glove Awareness Week

As part of the Royal College of Nursing’s Glove Awareness Week we are hosting a one day event to challenge, celebrate and debate the use of gloves as part of the delivery of health and care in all settings.

Glove Awareness Week:

  • Is campaigning to raise awareness of the impact of inappropriate glove use
  • Will raise awareness of the environmental impact of glove production, use and disposal
  • Builds on RCN members' experiences and concerns regarding inappropriate glove use
  • Highlights the importance of skin health and recognition of occupationally acquired dermatitis
  • Supports debate on what influences glove use including the role of procurement and products used by the NHS such as pre-prepared dressing packs
  • Explores the personal impact of glove use form a patient perspective

The conference is open to anyone with an interest in gloves or glove use. It is relevant to all care settings and NHS and Independent care providers.  The event will be of particular value to RCN safety representatives, Executive nurses, nurse educators, practice based educators, procurement, occupational health and infection prevention and control specialist nurses.

The event key objectives are:

  • To present the RCN Glove Awareness resources and key messages of the campaign
  • To showcase best practice in compliance with regulatory standards supporting staff skin health
  • To explore how data can be used to drive improvements in glove use
  • To debate procurement and the value of glove inclusion in pre-prepared dressing packs.

See the programme here. Please note this is subject to change and a final version will be given to you on the day.
