The Department of Health is consulting on principles that will inform the drafting of a Safe and Effective Staffing Bill to be introduced in the Northern Ireland Assembly next year. This legislation was agreed by the Northern Ireland Executive as part of the safe staffing framework demanded by RCN members during the strike action in 2019 and 2020. This is an important consultation for the nursing workforce in Northern Ireland and the RCN wants to give all members the opportunity to share their views.
