Delivering sustainable change

Health care workers have a unique role and responsibility to advocate, educate and lead action to mitigate risks associated with global temperature increases that offer benefits to improve the health and well-being of patients and citizens.

This one day event will give delegates a deeper insight into the challenges of delivering sustainable health care, by focusing on small changes in clinical practice that when combined create significant change. 

Speakers will share their success stories, and will discuss how their work can be replicated by the delegates in their own workplace and personal lives, to make small changes that will collectively contribute to a greener NHS.

Who should attend?

Health care staff from all backgrounds who are willing to demonstrate their commitment to making small changes towards more sustainable healthcare, and who are willing to offer up challenge to their colleagues.

This includes:

  • Service users and patients who have an interest in sustainable healthcare
  • Sustainability leads
  • Clinical specialist procurement nurses
  • Infection prevention and control practitioners and those in link practitioner roles
  • Clinical managers including ward and dept managers

BY CAR

From the South: 
The A38 Devon Expressway provides direct links between Plymouth and Exeter, the M5 and the rest of the UK's motorway network.  Derriford Hospital is one mile north of the A38, served by the A386 Tavistock Road, the main north/south route in and out of the city. From the M5 go directly onto the A38 continuing until the Manadon Junction Roundabout, then merge onto the A386 Tavistock Road (signposted Tavistock, Airport) which is a busy dual carriageway. Follow the signs for Derriford Hospital and turn right onto the site and use one of the available pay & display car parks as there is no available parking for course attendees directly outside PGMC, please see parking advice below.

The Plymouth Post Graduate Medical Centre is positioned directly at the rear of Derriford Hospital, virtually next door to the Freedom  Day Unit.  Follow signs past the maternity unit and down to the bottom of hill.   

From the West:

The A30 and A38 provide the two major road links from Cornwall to the A38 Devon Expressway.  At Tamar Bridge Roundabout take the first exit onto the A38 Devon Expressway continuing until the Manadon Junction Roundabout, then merge onto the A386 Tavistock Road (signposted Tavistock, Airport) which is a busy dual carriageway. Follow the signs for Derriford Hospital and turn right onto the site.  Use one of the available pay & display car parks as there is no available parking for course attendees directly outside PGMC, please see parking advice below.

Car parking

There are just over 1000 car parking spaces for patients and visitors at Derriford Hospital. The Trust’s policy is to reserve as much car parking as possible for patients and visitors next to the hospital whilst offering staff the use of park and ride sites.    Pay and display parking charges apply 24 hours a day.

Disabled parking: Free parking for blue badge holders is only available in non barrier pay and display car parks, up to a maximum of 4 hours when parked in a marked disabled bay. The full charge is applicable in all other barrier controlled car parks.

BY AIR

Exeter Airport is the nearest airport, located 45 miles from Plymouth. a taxi rank is located at the entrance to the airport. From the airport a taxi can be taken into Exeter City Centre, before cataching a train from Exeter St. David's Station.

BY TRAIN 

Plymouth Train Station is located within 20 minute taxi ride of the PGMC, a taxi rank is located at the entrance to the station.   It is on the main London to Penzance line, with hourly services to London Paddington and regular links to all major UK cities.
