We’ve almost finalised our programme for this year’s Black History Month celebration event and you can book your place now to make sure you don’t miss out.
Our focus is going to be on celebrating the differences and diversity across the nursing profession in the West Midlands, and our compere will once again be Dreadlock Alien, who has done a fantastic job at our previous Black History Month events.
One of our speakers will be Professor Jonathan Reinarz, Director of the History of Medicine Unit at the University of Birmingham, who will be talking about the history of diversity in the nursing profession across the region, while there will also be a session on tracing family history in the West Midlands Caribbean community, led by the Caribbean Family History Group.
We’ll also be hearing from our members, who’ll be sharing their experiences of working in health and social care, and there’ll be music, poetry, theatre, spoken word performances and a gospel singer.
Not only that, but you’ll get your lunch provided, with a cold buffet from Dane’s Caribbean Catering!
So make sure you book your place now, as there are only limited spaces available.
To add to the flavour of the event, we’d love to see people coming in their cultural dress (if they feel comfortable doing so) and we're also keen to highlight some of the hidden skills and talents amongst our nursing family.
So if you’ve got a skill or talent that you would like to share with us, whether you’re an artist, a photographer, a master at crochet or knitting, a rag rug maker, a scrap booker, or have a creative talent that few of us have heard of, please contact vicky.sandy-davis@rcn.org.uk.
