Valuing cultural relevance in the UK health care system
In an increasingly diverse and interconnected society, cultural relevance is not a luxury in health care - it is a necessity.
This learning session, presented by Albert Amagyei, a Nurse Educator at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and PhD candidate at the Research Centre for Healthcare and Communities, Coventry University, will explore how valuing cultural relevance within the UK health care system can enhance patient trust, improve health outcomes, and foster equity across communities.
By recognising the lived experiences, beliefs, and identities of those we serve, we can move beyond a one-size-fits-all model towards care that is truly person-centred.
The presentation will examine the systemic shifts, policy levers and frontline practices that can embed cultural responsiveness at every level, from education and workforce development to service design and delivery. Because when care reflects the people it serves, everyone benefits.
Branch Annual General Meeting
Come along to your branch Annual General Meeting, which is your chance to make a difference by shaping local branch activities for the year ahead and electing your branch committee members.
It's vital that members attend and elect their new branch executive.
The meeting will held online via Microsoft Teams - to register your attendance, please book your place here. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email which includes the link to join the Microsoft Teams meeting on the day.
You will need to log-in to your RCN account before booking. If you don't have an RCN account, it's a really simple process to create one - just follow the steps provided.
Could you help lead the branch?
If you're interested in getting more involved in the work of the branch, why not consider standing for one of the branch committee posts, which includes branch chair, secretary and treasurer? Please read the RCN governance branch role descriptions for these roles to check your eligibility and capacity.
Being a branch committee member is a great personal and professional development opportunity. You can nominate yourself for a position on the committee for 2026 by completing the nomination form before the AGM.
