Consultant led maternity services to remain at Glan Clwyd Hospital

4 Dec 2015

RCN Wales responds to the news that plans to temporarily remove consultant-led maternity services are to be reversed.

Following the news that plans to temporarily remove consultant-led maternity care at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan looks set to be dismissed, Tina Donnelly, Director, RCN Wales said:

“When these reconfiguration plans were originally announced, the strength of feeling against this proposal was felt across North Wales; receiving disapproval from both the public and health care professionals alike.”

“At the time, the Royal College of Nursing Wales was vocal in our opposition to the planned removal of consultant-led maternity services, with the hopes that our concerns, combined with those of the local population, would see the decision reversed.”

“With this in mind, we welcome that following a thorough consultation process from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board these plans are set to be dropped. This decision ensures that the safety of mothers and babies in North Wales remains the primary concern and they will no longer be placed under heightened risks.”
