Health Professional Investment Review welcomed by RCN Wales

3 Nov 2015

The Welsh Government commissioned Health Professional Education Investment Review focuses on investment in our nursing workforce.

Following the conclusion of the Welsh Government commissioned Health Professional Education Investment Review, Tina Donnelly, Director, RCN Wales said: “We welcome today's Ministerial Statement from Mark Drakeford, Minister for Health and Social Services, following the panel’s recommendations from the review, which echo our long held concerns in ensuring a sustainable workforce for the NHS in Wales.”

“We are aware that the current health service is struggling under the pressures of an inadequate workforce coupled with the increasing demands and ever-changing needs of our modern Welsh population.”

“With this in mind, we are pleased to see that this review has indeed focused on the need for investment in our workforce; whether this be encouragement to train as a health professional from a younger age or providing incentives to those who commit themselves to working for the NHS in Wales.”

“However, we must remember that health professionals in Wales provide high quality care to patients on a daily basis, in spite of the challenges they face. By ensuring that changes such as those suggested by this review are implemented we are taking strong steps in ensuring a better future for both patients and staff alike.”
