Nurses facing hardship

7 Mar 2017

Last week our charitable trust RCN Foundation revealed that a record number of nursing staff applied to them for hardship grants in 2016.

Regional Director, Yorkshire and Humber, Glenn Turp said: "This reflects what we hear from our members in Yorkshire and Humber, not just those working part-time or in-between jobs, but those who are already working all the hours they can to care for sick and vulnerable patients. Nurses simply aren't being paid enough for the work that they do.

"The RCN has been campaigning to raise awareness of the 14% fall in wages in real terms since 2010 and we have repeatedly asked Government to award a pay rise that recognises this.

"Nurses must be paid a fair wage for the work that they do seven days a week."
