Progress on securing back pay for nurses

18 Jun 2015

The RCN became aware in December 2014 that some nurses who had been seconded from HSC trusts to undertake DHSSPS post-registration specialist community practice commissioned education programmes in Northern Ireland suffered financial loss as a result of their employer unilaterally varying their terms and conditions of employment.

The RCN encouraged members who believed that they may have been affected by this error to get in touch to enable the RCN to make representations on their behalf with employers.

As a consequence of the RCN’s action, two HSC trusts have now responded by accepting the members’ retrospective claims and have started processing back payments for inclusion in the May pay run. Another HSC trust is currently reviewing all relevant cases over the last six years.
