RCN in Wales supports Welsh Government's plans for improved ophthalmic services

Of the Welsh Government’s plans to establish an eye care service in special school settings in Wales, Peter Meredith-Smith, Associate Director (Employment Relations), said: “The Welsh Government’s new eye health initiative will provide an invaluable service that could help prevent visual impairment and blindness in children with learning disabilities. We are aware that this vulnerable group is at a higher risk of issues with their sight and often suffer more challenges in accessing eye care services which is why it must be considered a priority in terms of their continued health and wellbeing.”

“We hope to see key stakeholders, health professionals and the public actively engage with the ‘School Pupil Eye Care Service for Wales’ consultation in the coming months to help ensure that these children are being provided the necessary care at this important stage of their lives.”
