The RCN is encouraging its members to help beat the flu this winter by getting their flu vaccine.

Due to repeated exposure of the virus, one in four health care staff is estimated to be infected by the flu in any flu season. The RCN says it’s a professional responsibility for all nursing staff to have the vaccine to help protect vulnerable patients and clients.

Helen Donovan, RCN Professional Lead for Public Health Nursing, said: “We know that health care staff transmit the virus and, as a result, put their patients at risk of developing serious complications from the flu.

“It’s important for all health and social care workers to make sure they get the vaccine, to look after themselves and stay well, and also protect their patients friends and families.”
