9 Jun 2020

Impact on minority ethnic communities in Scotland of COVID-19 virus to be investigated.

Coronavirus Commenting on Scottish government’s announcement today (Tuesday 9 June) that a new expert group will be established to provide a clearer picture of the impact on minority ethnic communities of coronavirus (COVID-19), Theresa Fyffe, Director, RCN Scotland said:

“The long-term and potentially devastating impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities has already been identified in England, in particular, the elevated level of risk for BAME health and care staff.

“We raised our concerns with the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport about the need to assess the risks and ensure BAME nursing and care staff have the right protection in place. The Scottish government’s guidance for employers is welcome and we await the findings from the expert group announced today."
