Farewell to Roy Tomlinson

15 Jan 2016

Yorkshire and the Humber Council member, Roy Tomlinson stood down at the end of 2015.

Yorkshire and the Humber Council member, Roy Tomlinson stood down at the end of 2015.

Elected in 2011, Roy served on Council for 4 years, as part of his significant contribution to the RCN as an activist representing and supporting members in a variety of different and important roles. This included membership of the Regional Board, which Roy chaired for 4 years.

Roy, who has been nursing for 45 years, and currently works in Scarborough as a team Leader for a dementia Charity, Making Space, said:“It’s been a privilege to be a Council member for the Yorkshire and the Humber region. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. My term of office has afforded me opportunities that many nurses will never experience and I’ll always look back on it fondly.

Looking ahead, especially as the RCN launches its 2016 pay campaign and focusses on student bursaries, Roy added: “Nursing and nurses are facing a number of big challenges over the coming months and year. So it’s important that the RCN remains strong, with Council listening to members and their concerns”.

During his time on Council, Roy chaired the Trade Union Governance Group and was a member of its Membership and Representation Committee. Despite stepping down from Council, Roy will remain active and continue as Chair of the North Yorkshire Coast branch.
