Nominations for panel members for the Research Excellence Framework 2021

9 Nov 2017

Nominations in respect of potential panel members are being sought, and the RCN is a nominating body

The quality of research undertaken within UK universities is periodically assessed in order to determine its quality and the impact that is has. This exercise is known as the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

This process is administered by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) on behalf of all the higher education funding bodies in the UK and currently HEFCE are inviting nominations in respect of potential panel members. Further information regarding this process, the responsibilities of panels and the nomination process can be found on the REF website.

Strategically it is essential that the nursing profession has a strong presence in both the REF panels and sub-panels since the outcome of this exercise has a significant impact on the future direction and funding of research.

As a professional organisation, the RCN is a nominating body and the Research Society will be working on behalf of the organisation to co-ordinate the process of nominations. It is important that the nominations reflect the diversity of nursing.

If you would like to be considered for nomination for panel membership by the RCN, you will need to fill in the form and return to Denise Alexis ( by 28 November 2017. An editable Word version of the nomination form (Annex E) can be accessed via the web link below.

When all nominations have been received, the RCN Research Society Steering Committee will analyse the nominations and formally respond on behalf of the RCN.

Should you have any queries, please contact Ann McMahon.

Professor Ruth Northway
Chair of the RCN Research Society Steering Committee
