Primary school children help to celebrate the #BestofNursing

12 May 2022

Primary school children have been helping the Royal College of Nursing in the North West to celebrate Nurses’ Day 2022.

Year 2 at New Mills Primary School have been learning about remarkable nurses in history and wanted to share their learning with RCN North West and its members.

Nurses’ Day is a global celebration on 12 May each year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. This year, the RCN will be showcasing the nursing profession’s incredible work and the difference they make to patients’ lives demonstrating the #BestOfNursing.

Not only is the region sharing content across its social media channels, Year 2 children have recorded a fantastic song which explores how figures such as Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole represent the #BestofNursing. Watch now: https://youtu.be/9eRHGLXCUOE

Estephanie Dunn, Regional Director of the Royal College of Nursing in the North West said:

“We know that the nursing community are working through challenging circumstances. But despite this, the public knows that they continue to go above and beyond in all they do for patients and those in their care. Today is a celebration of nursing staff’s clinical excellence, their personal compassion and genuine dedication.”

“We are delighted that the younger generation have worked with the RCN to showcase the role nursing has played in history. They were an enthusiastic audience and a pleasure to work with.”

Ashleigh Chappell, Year 2 teacher at New Mills Primary School added:

“We were thrilled to be asked to work with the Royal College of Nursing for Nurses’ Day. The children have really embraced the theme of the #BestofNursing and worked incredibly hard to perform a song which enabled them to demonstrate all they have learned about notable nurses in history including Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.”
