Only Boys Aloud, with special guest Sophie Evans, have produced a video and song to say thank you to nurses and health care workers in Wales.
Helen Whyley, Director, Royal College of Nursing in Wales, said: “RCN Wales is so proud to have collaborated with Only Boys Aloud on this special thank you song to all the health care workers in Wales, who have shown tremendous strength, commitment and dedication to patients and health care in Wales in what can only be described as the most challenging year.
I am disappointed that we are unable to celebrate with our annual RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards, but this year all of our nurses are our Nurses of the Year. I want to thank each and every one of you and I look forward to celebrating the contribution of nursing in Wales in 2021."
Denise Llewellyn FRCN MBE, Chair of the RCN Wales Board, said: “In 2020 our ability to celebrate the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife in the way that we wanted to was impeded by the COVID-10 pandemic. We concentrated on caring for our patients/clients and communities. During this outbreak the dedication and determination of nursing staff resulted in genuine and heartfelt appreciation from the people of Wales like never before.
The RCN Wales Board was humbled and so grateful to receive this wonderful thank you song from Only Boys Aloud, featuring Sophie Evans, on behalf of all nurses and health care workers who have demonstrated unwavering commitment, resilience, compassion and leadership during this year. We cannot and will not forget the personal sacrifices that nurses and carers have made and are making during this time.”
Craig Yates, Only Boys Aloud Acting Music Director, said: “We were really disappointed that we were unable to sing at the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards, but we were delighted to still mark the occasion with this virtual video. The boys have been rehearsing this song virtually since September and we were delighted that Sophie Evans, who has played Dorothy in the West End, agreed to join us to sing the solo. We wanted to thank all of the health care workers out there for everything they are doing for us, and this is our special way of thanking them.”
