East Sussex nurse awarded Fellowship of the Royal College Of Nursing

6 Jun 2022

Dr Regina Keith from Peacehaven in East Sussex has been named a Fellow of the Royal College Of Nursing at their annual RCN Awards.

Dr Regina Keith

Dr Regina Murphy Keith, a Course Leader for an MSc in Global Public Health Nutrition at the University of Westminster, was nominated by colleagues for her “passion and professionalism and dedication to nursing.”

Her nomination went on to say: “Regina has achieved excellence in her field of work, made significant visible changes, broken many barriers, touched and enriched the lives of many generations. The scope of her work has extended beyond nursing, she has developed and influenced policies at local and international levels.”

Dr Murphy Keith says: "I am honoured to accept the 2022 RCN Nursing Fellowship. As a peer nominated award this is very special to me, I thank all my colleagues who nominated me. I wish all nurses could be given an award to say thank you for their tireless work and professionalism, especially after two years of dealing with the COVID pandemic. This year I celebrated 40 years practicing as a nurse. I feel so proud to have worked with amazing colleagues, throughout the world, to help make health a right for all, in line with the 1978 Alma Ata Declaration. My PhD identified equity, voice, power and leadership as essential factors to improve timely health service utilisation. We still have lots of work to do and I pledge that I will use my RCN fellowship to continue to ensure that communities and nurses' voices are heard by policy makers and planners. I look forward to working with some of you in the future, as we strive to make 'Health for All' a reality!"

Dr Sheila Marriott, Royal College Of Nursing Interim Regional Director of the South East Region says: “It is always a pleasure to welcome a new Fellow to the College. Fellows are important because they bring with them a wealth of professional experience that we are able to call on as part of our work. Regina’s nomination is richly deserved and we look forward to working alongside her in the future.”

Celebrating the very best in nursing, the annual RCN Awards present Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships and Awards of Merit to those who have given an outstanding contribution to nursing, along with honours for the Learning Representative, Safety Representative and Steward of the Year.

The RCN elects a small number of new Fellows and Honorary Fellows each year.

The RCN Fellowship and Honorary Fellowship recognise practitioners, researchers, educationalists and leaders who share the RCN's commitment to advancing the art and science of nursing and the improvement of health care.

Nominees are put forward by peers to acknowledge their experience, accomplishments and dedication to the nursing profession.

RCN Congress provides a unique opportunity for RCN delegates to debate key issues around nursing practice that shape the RCN’s future work.

This is the first time that RCN Congress has been held in person since 2019 and will take place from 5-9 June at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow.
