RCN Scotland comments on the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People update

16 Sep 2019

Patient safety is the top priority, yet it is frustrating that such significant additional costs are required to remedy the problems identified, says RCN Scotland.

Commenting in response to the Health Secretary’s update on the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, RCN Scotland Director, Theresa Fyffe, said:

“Staff, patients and their families will be extremely disappointed to hear that the new children’s hospital will not open until next autumn. Patient safety is the top priority, yet it is frustrating that such significant additional costs are required to remedy the problems identified at the new site and keep the existing sites running.

“Staff have expressed frustration at the impact the delay could have on patient care but they also want reassurance that the new facility will be safe.

“We continue to support nursing staff at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the Western General Hospital and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in what is a frustrating and difficult situation for patients and staff alike.”
