RCN Scotland responds to Scottish Greens election manifesto

Scotland election campaign 2021 Logo Commenting on the Scottish Greens election manifesto published today, Susan Aitkenhead, Director, Royal College of Nursing, Scotland said:

“It’s very welcome that the Green party recognises that the contribution of nursing staff has been undervalued for too long and supports the RCN’s Fair Pay for Nursing campaign call for a 12.5% increase for nursing staff. The party’s commitment to prioritise the health and wellbeing of health and care staff is also welcome and echoes many of RCN Scotland’s calls around improving working environments and ensuring staff have access to the time and appropriate support to help them recover from the pandemic.

“The party also highlights the importance of legislation passed during the last parliament which, when enacted, will place a legal duty on Scottish Government to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Remobilisation and recovery plans must include action to achieve the staffing levels and skill mix necessary to deliver safe and effective care and we are calling on all political parties to support implementation of this vital legislation by the end of 2021.”
