Delighted that Assembly Members voted for Safe Nurse Staffing Levels

2 Jun 2015

The Royal College of Nursing in Wales is delighted that the National Assembly for Wales voted to support the introduction of legislation for safe nurse staffing levels in Wales. The Bill will now progress to Stage 2.

Tina Donnelly, Director, RCN Wales, said: “The delivery of high quality patient care depends on the skills and experiences of nurses delivered in a safe environment with safe nursing numbers. The statistics speak for themselves. This vote has demonstrated to the people of Wales that health and patient care is the top priority. This is another important step in protecting patients and improving health care in Wales."

All parties within the National Assembly for Wales have shown their support for this initiative. We are particularly grateful to Kirsty Williams AM, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, who submitted a private member’s bill asking for legislation for safe nurse staffing levels in hospitals."

"Our campaign for a law to protect patient care will continue throughout the next phase.”
