Are you a Celebrating Nursing Practice mentor?

Use this page to find more information about the role, guidelines and support on how to help you mentee progress their project and useful references and documentation.

Being a mentor involves sharing your expertise and supporting your mentee develop their innovation projects. You'll be offering your skills, knowledge and experience to help guide the project's development.

If you are unclear about any aspect of mentoring on this project, please seek guidance from the RCN CNP project team.

Mentoring should be a positive and productive relationship and as such, there are a number of principles that underpin it.  Please refer to the top tip below.

Project timelines:

Phase 1 - now to January 2018: deliver a publishable account of the mentee project or idea.  These stories will be available as one online publication and promoted to nursing community and wider throughout 2018.

Phase 2 - January 2018 to December 2018: RCN will select and further develop three mentee projects.  These will receive RCN Foundation funding during this phase.  Evaluate impact and share.

Where we are - Phase 1

We're now in the first phase of our project where you're supporting your mentee with developing their idea of best practice to publishable form.

Your mentee now has access to the template for the final summary. You can use your skills and knowledge alongside the tools and resources on this page to help your mentee shape this submission. You can also download a copy of the final submission template for reference.

The deadline will be for the final submission for publication is 18 January 2018.  

Tips for supporting your mentee

  • Tip 1 - Identify and capitalise on your mentee’s strengths to help them succeed
  • Tip 2 - Support your mentee to identify clear, SMART project outcomes i.e. Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely goals.
  • Tip 3 - Access additional support and expertise through your professional networks and contacts. Consider approaching those with experience and expertise to help with specialist elements of project work.
