Be a Congress Ambassador

We’re looking for volunteers to help make our annual networking and learning event better than ever before.

Congress is back from Sunday 2 June to Thursday 6 June at the ICC in Newport, south Wales.

We need about 30 volunteer ambassadors to help us provide a warm Welsh welcome to members travelling to Congress from all over the UK. Can you help?

What ambassadors do

As one of our ambassadors, you’ll be instrumental in helping our members feel welcome and get the most out of their Congress experience. We’ll ask you to work at least one or two morning or afternoon shifts between 7.30am and 6pm. You’ll get involved in a whole host of activities, for example:

  1. Managing queues and welcoming members
Where you’ll be: At the main entrance.
What you’ll do: Welcome members as they arrive at Congress. Direct them to the registration desk and other areas of the building.

  2. Stewarding and giving directions
Where you’ll be: At the doors of the main hall and other key areas around the venue.
What you’ll do: Alongside RCN staff, check that delegates have the appropriate badge and help to move members around the venue. You’ll also help avoid bottlenecks and queues in busy areas.

  3. Distributing Congress Guides
Where you’ll be: On the Guide Collection Point in the main foyer.
What you’ll do: Hand out the programme of the week’s inspiring events, including debates and learning and wellbeing sessions.

  4. Managing roving microphones and speaker queues
Where you’ll be: In the main hall.
What you’ll do: Assist with moving wireless microphones, known as roving mics, around the main hall during sessions including debates and keynote speeches. Help members wishing to speak join the speaker queue.

Who can apply?

Any of our members can apply to be a Congress Ambassador.

We’d particularly like to hear from you if you are based in the south Wales or Bristol area and have one or more of the following:

  • local knowledge of Newport and south Wales
  • previous Congress experience
  • experience of staffing or volunteering at large events
  • lived or professional experience of neurodiversity or mobility requirements that mean you could help members who may need extra support around the venue

Why apply?

  1. Experience Congress in a new light
As one of our ambassadors, you’ll get to experience Congress in a new light, helping fellow members reap the benefits of coming to Congress. But because you won’t be working full days, you’ll also get to experience the event as a delegate.

  2. Get free travel
We’ll reimburse your travel costs to and from Congress when using public transport. Check out our Expenses Policy to learn more. If you’re unable to travel by public transport, for example for medical reasons, let us know on your sign up form and we’ll be in touch.

  3. Get subsidised lunches
We’ll give you a £6 lunch voucher to redeem at any of the designated catering points within the ICC. If the total is less than £6, unfortunately you will not receive change. If the total is greater than £6, you will be asked to pay the difference. This cannot be reclaimed through expenses.

How to sign up

If you’re keen to be an ambassador, let us know by completing our simple sign up form. You’ll need to sign in using your membership details.
