19 May 2026, 08:00 - 08:45
The session will outline key findings and recommendations from the NHS Resolution Delayed diagnosis of cancer in general practice claims report which have relevance to nursing professionals. The background and context of clinical negligence in general practice will be explained, as well as the definitions used for delayed diagnosis.
Case studies will be used from the report to highlight good practice and opportunities for improvement. The purpose of the session is to highlight the complexity of the cancer diagnostic pathway and the important role that general practice plays in efforts to improve earlier cancer detection, in particular how nurses can support and improve patient experience.
The session is aimed at general practice nurses, advance nurse practitioners, practice development nurses, emergency nurses, public health nurses and nursing students as well as anyone interested and involved in nurse education.
